Back to Basics

Art comes from the inner child. Don’t always worry about impressing others. Do what you do fore the reasons you started. Why did you love your art in the first place?

Yes and no.
Some art comes from the deepest parts of your own soul, but other parts of art are a dialogue with your culture and the world around you. To be deeply, truly resonant for others, and not just an exercise in self-absorption, art thrives from respecting both its subjects, its intended audience and its place in the larger dialog of art and culture.
That doesn’t mean slavishly making pretty images just to suit the tastes of others. It does mean being gentle when you need to be, and tough when you need to be. For example, it feels good when everyone loves your art, and it hurts when others see it differently than you do, or make seemingly irrelevant comments about how it could be “improved”. Yet both parts of that dialog are important, since they keep us and our art connected to the larger world.
Keep up the good work!
